It does this with a complicated set of technologies including what Samsung calls industry-first DeepPix to ‘redefine how light is captured’, while also offering better HDR performance (at every zoom level plus single-frame 16-bit HDR) and 4K video at a whopping 180fps for slow motion.
Talking about DeepPix, Samsung says it’s “a new pixel structure engineered to improve Full Well Capacity (FWC). Leveraging Samsung’s advanced Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI), DeepPix expands both the photodiode capacity and shared floating diffusion, increasing single-pixel FWC by 60% over the previous generation”
While it has the same core specs as the main module found on the Galaxy S26 Ultra – a 1/1.3-inch sensor with 0.6μm pixels and Super Quad Phase-Detection autofocus – the aforementioned upgrades sound significant.
It would be reasonable to assume Samsung will use this new camera in the upcoming Galaxy S27 range, specifically the S27 Ultra but that’s unlikely to happen.
As is the way Samsung is split into different units, this HPC module is primarily manufactured for other phone makers to buy and fit to their devices. It’s already in mass production and likely to be found in upcoming phones from the likes of Vivo, Xiaomi and Oppo.
It’s a business first approach and the Galaxy S27 is instead rumoured to get an ISOCELL HP6 module, while also dropping one camera to cut costs. It should also be 200Mp at 1/1.3-inch and come with various improvements similar to the HPC module so it’s not all bad.
